In the northwestern Guanacaste region of the country, you can find the most beautiful beaches. Here you can relax under the sun, enjoy great surfing, swim in calm water, go diving and snorkeling with abundant marine life, try stand-up paddling, or just admire the scenery.
This part of the country is normally hot and dry. The dry season usually starts in November and lasts until May, with the rainy season from June through October. At this time, heavy thunderstorms can be expected, mainly in the afternoons. Due to the weather, tropical dry forests often line the beaches which give the impression that the shoreline has been literally embroidered by nature with trees. The most attractive and visited beaches of the region are: Playa Hermosa, Tamarindo, Langosta, Flamingo, Samara, Nosara and Ostional.
Liberia is where the Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport is located and it is the largest town, which serves as the economic and administrative center for the region. Liberia provides an ideal stopover point for visitors who would like to experience Guanacaste to the fullest.
Located on the Nicoya Peninsula, Samara is one of the safest and most attractive Pacific Coast beaches in the country. It is a wide bay that lies at the foot of a steep hill covered in tropical rainforest.
